The Design for this clock came from an article in the Australian Wood Review magazine, Issue 52. The article was written by William Matthysen.
I’ve always been interested in mechanical clock design. A mechanism that takes a tiny amount of power to give an accurate measurement of time is in my opinion up there with the great human achievements. From the ancient Greek water clocks through to Harrison’s marine clocks and onto the most ornate and complex pocket watches, the story and ingenuity to measure time is fascinating.
This clock keeps time to within a couple of seconds a day. The gears and palates of the escapement are made of ironbark, one of the hardest known timbers. The bearings are all stainless steel. It requires daily winding.
